In the Ancares-Courel Special Conservation Zone (ZEC), large yew trees are found, competing with beeches and oaks in areas of great ecological value, such as the "Devesa de Rogueira", the "Serra do Courel", (Vizcay González, M.A., 2012), several hills in the vicinity of Pedrafita do Cebreiro, etc.

In the Special Conservation Zone included in this LIFE program in the community of Castile and Leon, the yews are found in small blows, groups, and sometimes in stands that can be called "tejedas", sprinkled in different zones of the Cantabrian Mountain Range, normally in oak and/or beech forests, or in rocky outcrops, the latter being the survivors due to livestock pressure and, to a greater extent, forest fires. Important manifestations are the Tejeda de Tosande (Palencia), in the ZEC Fuentes Carrionas and Fuente de Cobre - Monataña Palentina, the examples of the Alto Sil in León, etc.

The corresponding Special Conservation Zone Gipuzkoa (Aralar and Pagoeta) also contain specimens of yews that are usually sprinkled with beech trees.
